NY de Volunteers dresses hundreds of visitors in traditional Japanese festival clothing and gives away "Amigurumi" donated by Resobox
It was a beautiful day on Randall's Island weather and event wise. The Cherry BlossomFestival arranged by the Randall's Island Park Alliance in conjunction with the NYC Dept. of Parks & Recreation is a family friendly event with Japanese cultural activities including our Try on Yukata booth. The festival and our booth was full of familys enjoying the beautiful day.
Randall's Island is an island located of the northeastern part of Manhattan. It is not so easily accessible by public transport but a lot of visitors made it to the festival and kept us busy. We appreciate all the visitors that made the effort to come and enjoy Japanese culture.
We had many young children stop by and they all looked cute in their mini yukatas, it was a great photo op for the parents!
The adults also enjoyed themselves.
Amigurumi is a Japanese art of knitting or crocheting stuffed yarn creatures. Through the generous donation of Resobox and its artists who made the amigurumi, we gave away over a hundred little creatures to children who visited our booth.
Thank you to all the volunteers and the Randall's Island Park Alliance. We look forward to being there again next year!
